কম্পিউটিং: প্রযুক্তি বিদ্যার যে শাখায় গনকের (কম্পিউটার) দ্বারা গণনীয় সকল প্রক্রিয়া এবং তার গঠন বিদ্যার অধ্যয়ন করা হয় তাকে কম্পিউটিং বলা হয। গননা ও তার নির্ণয় করন, গানিতিক বা যৌক্তিক পদ্ধতির প্রয়োগে করা হয়ে থাকে।
সহজ কথায় কম্পিউটিং বলতে কম্পিউটার ব্যবহারের প্রযুক্তিকে বোঝায়। এর মধ্যে কম্পিউটার হার্ডওয়্যার এবং সফ্টওয়্যার উভয়ের ব্যবহারই আলোচিত হয়। এটি মূলত তথ্য প্রযুক্তির কম্পিউটার সংশ্লিষ্ট অংশটিকে নির্দেশ করে। কম্পিউটিংয়ের তাত্ত্বিক ভিত্তি নিয়ে গবেষণা এবং এই তত্ত্বের মাধ্যমে ব্যবহারিক প্রয়োগ গড়ে তোলাই কম্পিউটার বিজ্ঞানের কাজ। ২০০৫ সালের কম্পিউটার কারিকুলাম অনুযায়ী কম্পিউটিংয়ের সংজ্ঞা হচ্ছে:
